Can booze be a cure for snoring?

Can booze be a cure for snoring? Absolutely not. I'll explain why.

Cures for snoringSome people may think that alcohol can have a positive effect in treating snoring. Yeah, I can understand it as the feeling of pleasant warmth and comfort in the throat after a sip makes them think this way. But it's just an illusion. Booze can never be a cure for snoring as it works just the other way around. It makes gullet muscles relaxed and, thus, provokes snoring and sleep apnea.

Scientists say that the liver can process 10-15 ml of pure alcohol an hour. Hence it is possible to determine the amount of booze that you can drink before sleep without any notable consequences on your breathing during the sleep. A fifth of vodka contains 40 ml of pure alchohol so the negative effect of this doze lasts about 4 hours. Didn't you notice that the most loud snorers are alcohol abusers?

Once again, booze can never be a cure for snoring. First ask yourself how much you take in. I don't say that you should turn into a total abstainer but if you want to turn your snore-volume down be more careful with booze. I quite often enjoy a sip of Johny Walker myself. But just a sip. Drink with measure - sleep with pleasure is my motto.

Refusal from smoking may be a cure for snoring

Today I'll talk about snoring and smoking. It's not a secret that smoking is one of the most topical problems of present-day society. It often causes inflammation of the gullet and trachea that is accompanied by dropsy of their walls and lowering of gullet muscles tonus. In its turn it leads to narrowing of upper airways and eventually results in snoring and sleep apnea. Thus, if you are a heavy smoker the refusal from smoking or some limitation may be a cure for snoring. And it is not for the first time that I'm telling you that you should strive against the cause of the disease but no the consequence of it.

Though, considering the refusal from smoking as a cure for snoring you should be very cautious, especially if you suffer from obesity. As quitting smoking may lead to the growth of weight it eventually can make the situation even worse. Extra-kilos can lead to the further progress of the disease, you know. I have touched upon this issue in the previous article entitled Body weight control as a preventive cure for snoring. Yes, quitting smoking is also a preventive cure for snoring, but in any way you should solve the problem of your weight first. In this case try at least to keep yourself from smoking not less than two hours before going to bed. There must be something to begin with!

Take care!

Body weight control as a preventive cure for snoring

So among conservative cures for snoring we may distinguish body weight control, refusal from smoking, alcohol, sedatives and soporifics. Let's take body weight control first.

In case of snoring the increase of the body weight by 10% may cause worsening of breathing parameters by 50%. As of matter of fact it marks a conversion of the disease into a more complicated form when the quality of sleep gets much worse, night micturition gets more frequent. Also there are such consequences as hypertension and headache in the morning, excessive sleepiness at daytime, irritability, etc. So instead of resorting to some radiacal cures for snoring you should strive right with the cause - your body weight.

It is medically proved that a considerable decrease of the body weight may significantly improve the condition of the disease. Or eliminate it at all! There is a lot of reason in the saying "prevention is better than cure". Git rid of extra-kilos, control your body weight and keep fit and, believe me, it may be the best cure for snoring!

Conservative and operative cures for snoring

Medical cure for snoring has been a difficult task for a long time. But in last years lots of new high-performance methods of treatment have been developed so that the problem of snoring is no longer unsolvable. Generally speaking, all cures for snoring can be devided into conservative and operational ones.

Among conservative cures for snoring there are:

- body weight control,
- refusal from smoking,
- refusal from alcohol, sedatives and soporifics before sleep,
- refusal from sleeping on one's back,
- stuffiness in nose treatment,
- physical excercises for reducing snoring,
- using of intraoral gadgets to correct the bite and fix the tongue during the sleep,
- using of special nose stikers to ease breathing.

In most cases conservative cures for snoring can't solve the problem of snoring completely. That's why the most popular cure for snoring is the operative one. This method can help to get rid of snoring almost at once. The operative cure for snoring implies at least two stages:

the first stage - diagnosis and nasal breathing correction;
the second stage - elimination of obstructions in the gullet cavity.

Radiowave radiation, ultrasound, surgical laser or cryoapplication are generally used in the operational cure for snoring. Usually it implies just one seanse to hold an operation. On average it takes from 7 to 10 days for operational wounds to get healed.

I'll talk about some conservative and operational cures for snoring in more detail next time. Please do cheer up!

Give much attention to cures for snoring!

Hi there! I'm Dr. Jack Snoring and I'm here to start a blog dedicated to cures for snoring. Hm, such a strange coincidence:) Step by step we'll consider the nature of snoring here, its causes, diagnosis and treatment and, of course, cures for snoring.

cures for snoringSnoring is an acoustic phenomenon that takes place when something obstructs the free flow of air somewhere between the openings of the nose and the wind pipe or trachea. The degree of the upper airway obstruction may be different. Partial collapse of the soft tissues of the upper airway produces a noise, which we refer to as snoring. In case of total obstruction of the collapsible airway a patient can experience a condition called apnea (or hypopnea).

Among the reason that cause snoring we may distinguish some anatomical abnormalities that lead to upper airway obstruction:

- nasal septum deformation,
- inborn narrowness of nasal meati and the gullet,
- nasal polyps,
- elongated uvula,
- small lower jaw and pathological occlusion,
- enlarged tonsils,
- obesity.

The sound of snoring causes big inconvenience for people arround. But snoring is not just a social problem (as many people consider it harmless in terms of health). It may be a symptom of one of the most dangerous respiratory diseases - obstructive sleep apnea. This makes the problem very acute. So one should give much attention to cures for snoring.
